Addressing Health Inequalities at the Annual CMA Meeting

Dear Friends,

Over the past few days I have attended the 145th Annual Canadian Medical Association Meeting in Yellowknife that has a focus on Social Determinants of Health and have been able to participate in many important discussions about our health care system.

The key note speaker Sir Michael Marmot gave a extraordinary speech based on his report, which looked at how to reduce health inequities in England. The federal goverment should review this notable report and take action! Canadian Doctors for Medicare also produced a paper on this issue, outlining the actions we can take to achieve health equity in our country, based on the Canadian Medical Association's report: CMA and Canada’s Doctors:Health Equity and the Canadian Health Care System.

I encourage you to check out these well-researched and thoughtful documents, and to join in the discussion!

Sincerely,

Libby
