In Celebration of National Aboriginal Day

Dear Friends,

I wish to extend my warmest greetings on the occasion of National Aboriginal Day, on June 21st.

National Aboriginal Day allows us to recognize the historic contributions of our First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples as well as commit ourselves to working together to create a brighter future.

I know that the struggle to live in decent housing in healthy environments, to receive a high standard of services, and to enjoy health and wellbeing both on and off reserve is still far from over. Deep struggles still exist: poverty, addiction, housing, land claims, and the suffering faced by survivors of residential schools are all issues that must be resolved. As your Member of Parliament, I am committed to working alongside with you to support all efforts toward equality and social justice.

So, on this National Aboriginal Day, we remember our shared history while also reflecting on all that still needs to be done. We must move towards a new relationship, nation to nation, that advances land claims, respects aboriginal rights, and ensures a bright future for Canada’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
