Happy Pride Week!
I wish to take this opportunity to give greetings and solidarity with all LGBTTQ Canadians as the City of Vancouver welcomes athletes from all over the continent to attend the 2nd Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association (GLISA) North America Outgames and Human Rights Conference from July 25th to 31st. This year’s Pride Parade on July 31st is guaranteed to be bigger, more colourful and fun.
Canada is a progressive country in its recognition of the struggles of our community. This victory is the achievement of countless individuals who believe in equality for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people in Canada over a period of many decades.
The Federal New Democrats have been at the forefront of the fight to legalize same-sex marriage and extend survivor benefits to same-sex couples. As an NDP Member of Parliament and the Deputy Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition, I am proud to speak up in Parliament to advocate for the human rights of the LGBTTQ community. We draw inspiration from activists who work tirelessly to create a society that is inclusive, respectful and fair for people of diverse sexual, cultural and social backgrounds.
Please join me in celebrating community, diversity and pride at these festivities.
In Pride and Solidarity,
