On October 14, 2009, Collingwood Neighbourhood House will conduct a count of the homeless in the Renfrew-Collingwood Neighbourhood. I wanted to let you know of this important community initiative, and encourage you to get involved. I have advocated strongly for federal action for affordable housing and have received much support for my Housing Bill C 304, for a National Housing Strategy. For more information on my Bill please go to https://www.libbydavies.ca/parliament/speech/2009/04/01/libby-s-bill-national-housing-strategy and http://www2.parl.gc.ca/content/hoc/Bills/402/Private/C-304/C-304_1/C-304_1.PDF.
If you are interested in getting involved in the count in Renfrew-Collingwood, it will take place from 6 am to 8 am, (October 14) in the area bordered by Broadway, Boundary, East 45th and Nanaimo Street. The focus will be on predetermined areas where the homeless are known to congregate, those living on the streets and where possible, those who spent the night with friends (couch-surfing) because they do not have anywhere to live.
Training will be provided on:
Date: Wednesday, October 7, 7 pm to 9 pm OR
Thursday, October 8, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Place: Collingwood Neighbourhood House (5288 Joyce Street, Vancouver)

Homelessness is preventable and easily solved if the provincial and federal governments make the provision of safe, accessible, and affordable housing a priority. Every community initiative, such as this one, is a step to keeping the pressure on our governments to make housing a human right.
Thanks for your support!
