Statement by Libby Davies, Member of Parliament for Vancouver East

I offer my deepest condolences and sympathy to the people of Italy and the Abruzzo region who have suffered great and tragic losses of family and friends in the city of L’Aquila and the surrounding area as a result of the recent earthquake. I also want to express my heartfelt condolences to the Italian Canadians who have lost or have injured loved ones there.

We know emergency operations are underway to seek survivors and to support those who are injured and homeless. The breadth of devastation in this historic area, is shocking and the resulting trauma and destruction is far reaching and of great impact.

I offer my support, solidarity, and hope to the brave men and women and families of those areas who are struggling to survive and rebuild their community.

I will also do everything I can to support the community efforts underway in Vancouver, to show our support for the people of the Abruzzo region.
