NDP STATEMENT ON BILL C-377
STATEMENT BY OFFICIAL OPPOSITION LABOUR CRITIC, ALEXANDRE BOULERICE (ROSEMONT – LA PETITE-PATRIE):
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 26, 2013
I am relieved to see that Bill C-377, which sought to impose unreasonable administrative constraints on labour organizations, will find its way back to the House of Commons.
From its introduction on, New Democrats have denounced this bill as no more than an ideological attack against the labour movement. C-377 is a useless, biased, inequitable and unconstitutional bill that threatens privacy and increases red tape.
That this bill has finally been amended by the Senate proves one thing only: what we need is not a Senate that costs taxpayers almost 100 million dollars a year but a government that puts the public interest before blind partisanship.

STATEMENT BY NDP LEADER TOM MULCAIR ON NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 21, 2013
On behalf of New Democrats from coast-to-coast-to-coast, I join Canadians in paying tribute to the vital role that Canada’s indigenous peoples have played in our great country for generations.
Today is an important day for celebrating the rich culture and history of Canada’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis. We must also use occasions like today to redouble our efforts to end the historic injustices that still impact indigenous peoples—while working together toward a true nation-to-nation relationship that benefits everyone.
This year we’ve seen an unprecedented mobilization of indigenous communities. First Nations, Inuit and Métis of all ages are fed up with the paternalistic approach of both Liberal and Conservative governments. Instead of partnership and collaboration, Canada’s indigenous peoples continue to face broken promises and unfulfilled dreams. The status quo is not working.
This summer New Democrats will reach out to indigenous communities to discuss how we can work together to build a nation-to-nation relationship based on respect, rights and trust. We will continue to work with indigenous peoples to ensure that everyone in Canada has the same access to opportunity and lasting prosperity.
